Fed: Hardgrave lauds Chinese and Vietnamese communities
CANBERRA, Feb 10 AAP - Federal Multicultural Affairs Minister Gary Hardgrave todaypaid tribute to Australia's Chinese and Vietnamese communities ahead of their New Year- the Year of the Horse.
Mr Hardgrave said the New Year, on January 12, was a wonderful time for family andfriends to celebrate together.
The horse, the seventh animal of the Chinese zodiac, symbolised strength and courage.
"With the benefits gained from more than 50 years of organised migration, we live ina multicultural society which can go forward with the horse's strength and courage," MrHardgrave said in a statement.
He said the Chinese and Vietnamese living in Australia had added greatly to the socialand economic life of the country, with their skills, experience and hard work.
"They have established their own community organisations, providing support and assistanceto other members of their communities, as well as participating in the wider Australiancommunity," he said.
Mr Hardgrave said he had written to both communities to congratulate them.
